The Leslie Street Spit
A Short Story About The Leslie Street Spit:
APSC considers itself fortunate to be a part of one of Toronto's greatest and well loved landmarks.
You will find the Leslie Street Spit at the foot of Leslie Street. It is more than 600 hundred hectares of reclaimed land, reaching out five kilometres into Lake Ontario. Work on the Leslie Street Spit started in 1959 as part of a project to extend the facilities of the Port of Toronto. Over the decades, however, as Great Lakes shipping declined, the Spit has taken on a life of its own as one of Toronto's more vital and interesting parklands and as a member of the International Network of Important Bird Areas.
APSC believes that its tenureship in the Spit has heightened its members' awareness of environmentmental and ecological issues that affect the Greater Toronto Area. Sailing can and does exist in harmony with all that the Leslie Street Spit has to offer.
